This Training Video captures all the key learning points from our live training workshop with Rebecca Kirkbride on working therapeutically with children and young people aged 11-18 years.
Working therapeutically with children and young people in private practice almost inevitably raises issues and dilemmas not ordinarily present in adult work. Working with this group frequently raises issues around therapeutic boundaries, confidentiality, contracting arrangements, and child protection.
Unlike adult work, working with young people generally brings practitioners into contact with the client’s parents, even if it just to arrange payment of the bill. The practitioner is tasked with forming a relationship with the parent which allows the therapy to be supported as necessary, while also maintaining the boundaries which will keep the work confidential and the client’s needs central.
This Training Video also contains discussion summaries from the live workshop, and case studies which you can pause and reflect on.
Objectives
To highlight some of the dilemmas that practitioners are likely to encounter when working with this group in private practice.
To provide and develop well-informed and thought through methods for working with such dilemmas in practice.
