About Mahwish Qamar

Mahwish Qamar is a UKCP registered and BACP accredited psychodynamic therapist working with young people and adults.

She qualified as a therapist from the University of Oxford, before completing Group Work training with the Institute of Group Analysis. During her studies she became interested in issues around race and religion, and completed her research study on ‘Islamophobia in the consulting room’ whilst reading for her Masters in Psychodynamic Studies at Oxford. She has presented her research on Islamophobia in therapy to both UKCP and BACP Research Conferences.

Mahwish has a keen interest in educational settings and was a GCSE English teacher before training as a therapist. She is also trained in CBT and therapeutic play skills and currently works in independent day and boarding schools, providing therapeutic services to students and staff through talking therapy, therapeutic play, and group work. She works alongside school communities to address whole school concerns and to provide therapeutic thinking to organisational issues and dynamics.
